The Rainbow Bee Eaters are back!

Anke and I went for our walk this morning (and I gotta admit, she was far more enthusiastic about it than I was!) but I was so glad we did as, lo and behold... the "Rainbow Bea Eaters" were back!

Easily one of the most beautiful native birds we have in Australia, they migrate up North every winter and return about the beginning of November to breed. This morning as we walked along the river in Rivervale we saw 2 of them back for the start of summer. They dig long shallow tunnels in the sand to breed in so are quite an interesting bird... and are amazing to watch in flight - especially when they are courting. Hopefully the building works on the foreshore wont put them off.
