3.5 Billion years old?!

This is one of my favourite photo's from our fantastic 5 week "around the State" holiday with Anke's Mum & Dad... these are some the stromatolites in Shark Bay - apparently they are the oldest life-form on earth! At 8 hours drive from Perth it's a bloody long way to go to see them (but there's heaps of other stuff there to see & do too) but it was so interesting... they're a form of 'blue-green' algae & from this primitive life form, so the scientists say, is where it all started!
